Framer’s $27M Series C and Shaping the Future of Web Design
We’re happy to announce our $27M Series C funding round, led by Meritech Capital with participation from our current investors: Atomico, Accel, and Foundation. As always, thanks to all our customers, employees, and investors for coming on this journey with us.
Forbes: How Framer Reinvented itself
We started Framer in 2015 based on the belief that high-fidelity design and prototyping would be the future. For a while, it looked like everyone was going to embrace that. But by 2021, we noticed a strong shift towards simpler methods. White-boarding tools and low-fidelity prototyping solutions were easier to use for a larger audience and won in popularity.
We needed a shift in strategy and asked ourselves: could our design tool build actual production sites? This led to the creation of Framer’s professional site builder, which we launched in May 2022.
The problem we’re tackling is simple: designers often create web designs in design tools like Figma, only to have to rebuild them from scratch in web development platforms like Webflow. With Framer, we’ve simplified this. Design your site, make it responsive, add animations, and publish—all in one place. No more endless back and forth between tools.
Additionally, all the technology investments we’ve made in the past allowed us to really push how great websites can look and feel. From smooth animations to elaborate scroll effects, Framer sites push what’s possible in browsers to present your online presence in the best possible way.
The response since our launch has been overwhelming. We’ve seen consistent growth of 20%+ month over month, and companies like messagebird.com, superhuman.com, twingate.com, and whereby.com trust us with their entire web presence.
So, what’s next? This funding will primarily help us further scale up our product and commercial teams, especially in Europe and the US. Our vision remains: Redefine the web design process to be seamless and fun.
We’re also working on new features for larger sites, from localization, which will make it easier than ever for businesses to adapt and customize their web presence for global audiences, to custom forms and additional enterprise-level integrations. Plus some things we’re not ready to talk about just yet.
More broadly, we’re doubling down on our belief in a future where every business, from startups to Fortune 500s, can have a beautifully designed, efficient, and globally accessible web presence.
To our community, investors, and the entire team at Framer—spread out across Amsterdam, Barcelona, and beyond—thank you. Here’s to the next chapter of redefining web design and making it faster and fun for everyone.
Stay curious and keep building,
Koen & Jorn
